The ´´European Platform for Youth Development´´ (EPYD) has been officially launched on 30th May 2006 at the Romanian Mission to the European Union in Brussels (Belgium).

The official presentation of the ´´European Platform For Youth Development´´ took place during the roundtable discussion Networking and youth active citizenship, participation in society and pluralist democracy” held by the Romanian Mission to the EU.

The round table was opened by Ioana Rus, Secretary III, Youth and Press Affairs, Romanian Mission to the EU and counted with the participation of Erik Langbraten representing the European Commission and Caroline Gonthier - Press and Communication Officer, ECAS- European Citizen Action Service as speakers.

Two of the main discussion panels were focused on:
“Quality – services provision and innovation” and “Development as a New Paradigm in the Youth Field”.

The official presentation was followed by a round of contacts with representatives from European Commission, European Parliament and European Youth Forum regarding the action plan of the Platform for the next two years.

During these events the first General Assembly of EPYD, where the members of the board, regional coordinators and secretariat were elected, also took place.

“EPYD is a nongovernmental, non-profit, apolitical body based on regional cooperation between the European Union and partner countries – SEE and Caucasus, to deal with structural changes in terms of quality & accountability, support the development, lobby for the recognition, and advocate the active participation of organizations working in the youth field with the European governance.

EPYD came as a result of the program “Networking 4 Tomorrow” initiated by ´´Youngsters Without Borders´´ from Romania and developed in cooperation with a multilateral team of Youth NGOs from Albania, Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia, Malta, Italy, Spain, Greece, Poland, Denmark, Romania, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia.

The project Networking 4 Tomorrow has been carried out with the support of Youth Programme and National Authority for Youth through the National Agency for Supporting Youth Initiatives by a grant within the Youth programme of the European Commission in Romania.
