Turin (Torino) Municipality prefers Nokia TETRA for their secure radio communications

First significant TETRA network implementation in Italy
Nokia has won the contract to supply the radio communication network for the Civil Protection Department of the Turin Municipality. The system will be the first significant implementation of its kind in Italy, and it will provide the staff of Turin Municipality with seamless, highly reliable Nokia TETRA voice and data services.
The first users of the network will be the Municipal Police of Turin and others, who will also support the organization and security of the 2006 Winter Olympic Games.

Under the terms of the contract, Nokia will provide Turin Municipality with digital TETRA professional mobile radio solutions, including Nokia DXTip exchanges, Nokia TETRA base stations, and Nokia DWS dispatcher workstations. Nokia will also provide integration and training services, setting up of the terminals, and turn-key delivery of the system. The Alpitel company - a member of a temporary association of companies together with Nokia - will provide the implementation services for the project.
