Premium frequent flyers cast their votes for the world’s best airports, hotels, cities and airlines, including Malév, in a survey conducted by Global Traveler magazine. Dr. János Gönci, Malév chief executive officer, collected the “Best Airline in Eastern Europe” award recognizing the services of the Hungarian national carrier at a ceremony in Jumeirah Essex House, New York.

New tribute from customers

This is the third year that Global Traveler has conducted a survey asking its readers to rate airlines, airports, cities and hotels around the world. Survey questions were published by the magazine between 1 February – 31 August 2006, in 42 categories. A total of 13,653 completed 6-page questionnaires were returned by mail, e-mail, fax or via the Global Traveler website at www.globaltravelerusa.com/readersurvey. Those responding to the survey spend an average 61 days a year on international business trips and 76 days on domestic business travel, while in the eight months of the survey they travelled on an average 18 international flights and 21 domestic flights. Respondents were 76% male, 24% female, and their average age was 45.
The results of the Global Traveler research are published in the January edition of the magazine. Readers were asked to assess airlines in 26 categories; the following are some of those corporations voted by international travellers to be among the very best in the world: British Airways (Best Airline), American Airlines (Best Airline for Domestic First Class), Asiana Airlines (Best Onboard Service & Flight Attendants), LAN (Best Airline in Central/South America), Thai Airways International (Best Trans-Pacific Airline), and the Hungarian flag carrier, Malév, as “Best Airline in Eastern Europe”.
“It is a great honour for our airline to be able to take part in such a prestigious event, and for us to receive one of the 26 awards today from among the world’s leading airlines. We consider this award founded by Global Traveler to be among the most important of the many honours Malév has received. I would like to thank our customers for choosing us and I can assure them that we will continue to strive to be worthy of their trust,” said Malév CEO Dr. János Gönci at the ceremony.
“Our readers are the opinion leaders of business and luxury travel,” said Global Traveler Publisher and CEO Francis X. Gallagher. “The number of those responding to our survey more than doubled in one year. The list of the best in the airline business was compiled on the basis of the views of more than 13,000 travellers.”
